1. transitive. U.S. To force (a person or thing) into a particular course or direction; esp. to eject, expel. Cf. to give a person the bum's rush at bum n.6 Phrases 1.Some later uses are perhaps examples of sense 2b with a prepositional phrase expressing the direction of movement resulting from an attack or assault (cf., e.g., quot. 1993 and quot. 2016 at sense 2b).
