Etymology: < French Wallon (feminine Wallonne ), n.adj. < medieval Latin Wallōn-em , < Germanic *walah , walh , foreigner (Old English wealh ): see Welsh adj. The name represents the appellation given by the Germanic Flemings and Franks to their Romanic-speaking neighbours.
