1. A stream of water discharged into the air, typically issuing from a small aperture under pressure; a fountain.The precise nature of the water jet in quot. 1727 is uncertain. The occurrence is described as ‘a Spouting of Water from a Swamp or Bog’, but may have been a waterspout (waterspout n. 3b).
