Etymology: ? a jocular use of the Nautical sense, weather n. Compounds 3; or perhaps = the eye which is specially used for observing the weather. Compare Old Norse veðr-eygr, ? keen-eyed.
Used in figurative phrases, such as to keep one's weather-eye open, to be watchful and alert, keep one's wits about one.
