Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin adiuvāt-, adiuvāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin adiuvāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of adiuvāre (see adjuvant adj.). Compare Middle French, French (rare) adjuver (15th cent. in a copy of a 13th-cent. text, subsequently from the late 19th cent.).
Now rare.
