Etymology: < French bustamite ( A. Brongniart 1826 in Annales des sciences naturelles 8 411) < bustam- (in the name of Miguel Bustamante (1790–1844), Mexican mineralogist and botanist, who discovered the mineral) + -ite -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A manganese-containing mineral, typically occurring as pink to reddish-brown prisms.Bustamite is a silicate of manganese and calcium, CaMnSi₂O₆, with zinc, iron, and magnesium frequently replacing some of the manganese. Crystal system: triclinic.
