Husbandry (1757) (1757 4to.) 183 The ears [of wheat] being long and heavy were bussle-headed,—that is, did hang their heads downward into the sheaf. 2. English regional (Hampshire). Of a tree: stunted, misshapen. ΚΠ 1863 J. R. Wise New Forest xvi. 183 The badly-grown or stunted trees are called ‘bustle-headed’, equivalent to the ‘oak-barrens’ of America. 1866 R. D. Blackmore Cradock Nowell I. xxii. 210 That nest of charcoal-burners by the bustle-headed oak.
