Etymology: < the name of Willesden, a north-western suburb of London.The Waterproof Paper and Corrugated Fibre Co. was founded by Mr. Elkanah Healey in Warrington, in 1868. Specimens of their products were exhibited at the Scientific Inventions Exhibition at South Kensington in 1872. The following year a factory was established at Willesden, managed by the son of the founder, Mr. A. E. Healey.

Used attributively to denote forms of paper or canvas that have been toughened and waterproofed by being treated with cuprammonium solution.
