Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin adminiculāt-, adminiculāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin adminiculāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of adminiculāre to support with props, prop up, to support with authority < adminiculum adminicle n. Compare Middle French adminiculer to support (1596 in an apparently isolated attestation), and also perhaps earlier adminiculler , of uncertain sense, perhaps ‘to diminish’ (a1501, although this may be unrelated). Compare earlier adminiculation n.
Chiefly Scots Law. Now rare.
