The activity of seeking out and punishing people suspected or accused of witchcraft; the profession of a witchfinder. Cf. witch-hunting n. 1.Chiefly with reference to the 16th or 17th centuries or referring to places, esp. in some African countries, where belief in witchcraft is still current.
