Etymology: Old English wínberige = Old Saxon wînberi , Old High German wînberi (Middle High German -ber(e , German weinbeere ), Old Norse vínber (compare Gothic weinabasi ): see wine n.1, berry n.1 Middle English wĭnberi normally represents the Old English word; wineberry is a new formation.
