Origin: Probably a borrowing from an Australian Aboriginal language
Etymology: Probably < an Australian Aboriginal language of coastal New South Wales.In form woe-begone with folk-etymological alteration after woebegone adj. The form woggegong shows assimilation of b in the second syllable to g in the third.
Any of various slow-moving, bottom-dwelling sharks of the family Orectolobidae, esp. of the genus Orectolobus, having a broad flattened body, patterned skin, and barbels, and found in shallow temperate and tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean and eastern Indian Ocean, esp. around Australia and Indonesia.Also called carpet shark.
