Origin: An imitative or expressive formation.
Etymology: Imitative; compare -le suffix 3. Probably partly suggested by wolf v. (see especially wolf v. 1), whoof v., snuffle v., and perhaps also whuffle vb. at whuff v. Derivatives.

a. transitive. To consume (food or drink) with a snuffling, snorting, or growling sound; to eat eagerly, greedily, or noisily.
