Etymology: < yearn v.1 + -ed suffix1. N.E.D. (1921) included the following quotation in this entry, but editions of Jonson's works have more convincingly interpreted this as long-yarned.1616 B. Jonson Epigrammes xlii, in Wks. I. 779 That his long yearn'd life Were quite out-spun.
