Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: yellow adj., face n.
Etymology: < yellow adj. + face n., after blackface n. (compare sense 1b at that entry).
Make-up worn by a white actor playing a person of South-East or East Asian (especially Chinese or Japanese) ethnic origin; the practice of imitating a person of South-East or East Asian origin in this way. Cf. blackface n. 1b.This practice is now widely condemned as offensive.
