单词 yester-eve
释义

yester-eveadv.n.

Brit. /ˈjɛstəriːv/, U.S. /ˈjɛstərˌiv/
Forms:

α. Scottish pre-1700 yestreive, pre-1700 yestreve.

β. 1600s yester-eue, 1700s– yester-eve.

Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Apparently partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Probably partly formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: yester-even adv.; yester- comb. form, eve n.2
Etymology: Apparently originally (i) an alteration of yester-even adv., after eve n.2; in later use probably also partly (ii) < yester- comb. form + eve n.2 (compare discussion at yester- comb. form). Compare earlier yestern eve adv. With the α. forms compare also yestreen adv.
Chiefly poetic.
In or during the evening of yesterday; yesterday evening, last night; = yester-evening adv. Also occasionally as n. (cf. yester-evening n.). Cf. earlier yestern eve adv.
