Etymology: < Yiddish yidish Jewish (see Yiddish adj.) + -er suffix1. Compare later Yiddisher adj.The Yiddish word for ‘Jew’ is yid Yid n.; the language does not use yidisher as a noun in this sense.
1. A Jewish person. Somewhat depreciative. Now rare.
