Etymology: < Russian yurta, through French yourte or German jurte.
A semi-subterranean dwelling or hut, usually formed of timber covered with earth or turf, of the indigenous peoples of northern and central Asia. Also: a circular skin- or felt-covered tent with collapsible frame, used by the nomadic peoples of Siberia and central Asia. Also in extended use.
