Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Yoda.
Etymology: < Yoda, the name of the wise, calm, and extremely old mentor of the young protagonist in the film The Empire Strikes Back (released 1980, part of George Lucas's Star Wars franchise). Compare earlier Yoda-like adj.The character has also appeared in several later films in the franchise. Among his most notable attributes is speech with a highly idiosyncratic word order.
A person who embodies the characteristics of Yoda, esp. in being wise; an elder, sage, or guru.
