Origin: A borrowing from Sanskrit. Etymon: Sanskrit yogācāra.
Etymology: < Sanskrit yogācāra, originally denoting the practitioner, lit. ‘person whose practice is yoga’ (compare sense 2) < yoga yoga n. + ācāra conduct, practice ( < ācar- to approach, to practise, perform < ā- towards + car- to move: see cult n.).
1. A school of Mahayana Buddhism holding that no reality exists independent of consciousness. Frequently attributive, as Yogacara philosophy, Yogacara school, etc.
