单词 young fogey
释义

young fogeyn.

Brit. /ˌjʌŋ ˈfəʊɡi/, U.S. /ˌjəŋ ˈfoʊɡi/
Forms: see young adj. and fogey n.
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: young adj., fogey n.
Etymology: < young adj. + fogey n., probably after old fogey n.
A young person of conservative or outdated tastes, attitudes, or appearance. Cf. old fogey n. O.E.D. Suppl. (1986) states that ‘though occasionally used at an earlier date in contrast with old fogey, the expression did not become common until the 1980s’. More evidence of use before the 1980s has since become available, although it is still true that usage of the term became much more widespread after 1980.
