Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin adnāscent-, adnāscēns.
Etymology: < classical Latin adnāscent-, adnāscēns, present participle of adnāscī (also adgnāscī , agnāscī ) to grow later or as an addition (to), to grow on < ad- ad- prefix + nāsci to be born (see nascent adj.). Compare earlier adnascence n., adnascency n. Compare also earlier subnascent adj.
Chiefly Biology. rare.
Growing on or in close proximity to the surface of something; (of two surfaces) growing in close proximity.
