Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin adnātus, agnātus, agnāscī.
Etymology: < classical Latin adnātus, variant of agnātus, past participle of agnāscī to be born, (of parts of the body) to grow later or as an addition, (of parasitic plants) to grow on (see agnate adj.).With sense 2 compare post-classical Latin adnatus (1536 in tunica adnata adnate tunicle (compare quot. 1648 at sense 2), or earlier).
