Etymology: < German Adnexa (1851 or earlier) < classical Latin adnexa , neuter plural of adnexus physically attached, joined, past participle of adnectere annex v.The form adnexae, which appears to reflect a classical Latin feminine plural form, arose from a reinterpretation of the Latin neuter plural adnexa as a feminine singular.
Anatomy.
With plural agreement. Structures adjoining and regarded as accessory to another organ; esp. the appendages of the uterus (ovaries, Fallopian tubes, and uterine ligaments).
