Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French adossé, adosser.
Etymology: < French adossé (in heraldry) addorsed (1402 in Middle French), use as adjective of past participle of adosser to turn the back to (late 11th cent in Old French) < à to + dos back (see doss n.1).In form adossée reflecting the feminine form of the French adjective. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciations (adose, ădǫ·si) /adose/, /əˈdɒsɪ/.
Heraldry. Now rare.
