Originally: designating the cingulate sulcus, which lies between the cingulate gyrus and the superior frontal gyrus on the medial surface of the brain. In later use also: of or relating to this sulcus; spec. designating a large branch of the anterior cerebral artery which follows the course of this sulcus.Former alternative names for the cingulate gyrus and the superior frontal gyrus were callosal gyrus and marginal gyrus, respectively.
