Etymology: < classical Latin adpress-, past participial stem of adprimere (also apprimere : see adpress v.) + -ed suffix1. Compare post-classical Latin adpressus ( Linnaeus Philosophia botanica (1751) iii. 49). Compare appressed adj. at appress v. Derivatives, and later adpress v.

Pressed close to or lying flat against a surface, as the hairs or leaves on the stems of some plants, or one surface against another.
