Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: a- prefix3, draw v.
Etymology: < a- prefix3 + draw v., probably after aback adv.The form adrough apparently reflects the past tense form drough (see forms at draw v.), although it is very late for such a form.
Nautical. rare (archaic in later use).
So as to swell out or draw with the wind (see draw v. 44). Also as adj.: (of a sail) swelling out with the wind, drawing.
