Etymology: < Scottish Gaelic canach (Early Irish canach plant down, cotton grass), of uncertain origin.Perhaps related to Gaulish caneco-, of uncertain sense, perhaps ‘light yellow’ or ‘down’, but the nature of the relationship is unclear.
