Etymology: < capitalist adj.+ road n., after Chinese zībĕn zhŭyì dàolù (1946 or earlier) < zībĕn zhŭyì capitalism, lit. ‘doctrine of capital’ + dàolù road (with the element dào compare tao n.); often contrasted with shèhuì zhŭyì dàolù road of socialism, socialist road.
Esp. during the Cultural Revolution in China: an observable tendency to adopt political ideals and practices leading towards capitalism.
