Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin affirmabilis , -ly suffix2; affirmable adj., -ly suffix2.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin affirmabilis affirmable adj. + -ly suffix2, after Middle French afferméement (15th cent. in the passage translated in quot. 1489). In later use < affirmable adj. + -ly suffix2.
