Etymology: A variant or doublet of castellan n.: compare castellany n.; also medieval Latin ‘castellanus, castelli incola’ (Du Cange).
Obsolete.
One living in or belonging to a castle; one of the garrison of a castle. Applied e.g. to those who held the Castle of St. Andrews in 1547, and frequent during the civil war of the 17th cent.
