Raoul (raʊl). 1912–?, Swedish diplomat, who helped (1944–45) thousands of Hungarian Jews to escape from the Nazis. After his arrest (1945) by the Soviets nothing is certainly known of him; despite claims that he survived, he is presumed to have died in prison
