Note: Named by its discover, English chemist and mineralogist Arthur Herbert Church (1834-1915), "in honour of my friend and former colleague, Dr. John Bayldon" ("Chemical Researches on some new and rare Cornish Minerals," Journal of the Chemical Society of London, new series vol. 3 [entire series vol. 18], 1865, p. 265). Bayldon appears to have held a position at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, where Church was a professor of chemistry (see obituary of Bayldon in The Lancet, vol. 2, July 6, 1872, p. 29).
