borrowed from New Latin, from Greek bdélla "leech" + New Latin -oida, variant of -oidea -oidea
Note:Bdelloida was introduced originally as an order name within the class Rotifera by the English naturalists Charles Thomas Hudson (1828-1903) and Philip Henry Gosse (1810-88) in The Rotifera; or Wheel-Animalcules, Both British and Foreign (London: Longmans, 1889 [first volume 1886]), vol. 1, p. 95. The form Bdelloidea appears to have become current in the 1890's.
