A kaiak had been left until the ice in the river was firm enough to enable the vessel to be brought over on it to the station.

A kaiak is so light that it can without difficulty be carried on the head, with all its appurtenances, over several miles of land.

As the kaiak is used only during the seasons of open water it is laid aside during the winter.

On the top of these upper crosspieces is laid a piece which extends to the nose of the kaiak.
