Evans, Bill

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishEvans, BillBill EvansEv‧ans, Bill /ˈevənz/  (1929-1980) a US jazz pianist who was born in Plainfield, New Jersey. His playing style influenced many other jazz pianists including Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Keith Jarrett. In the 1950s he made records with many famous jazz musicians such as Art Farmer, Charles Mingus, George Russell, and Tony Scott. He also spent a short time with the Miles Davis group and played on the record Kind of Blue (1959). In the 1960s he formed a band with Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums. The musicians in this group changed many times over the years. His albums include Everybody Digs Bill Evans (1958), Conversations With Myself (1963), and We Will Meet Again (1979).
