释义 | Evans, Gil From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishEvans, GilGil EvansEvans, Gil /ɡɪl/(1912-1988) a Canadian jazz pianist, arranger, and composer who was born in Toronto, but spent most of his life in the US. He is best known for his work as an arranger for Miles Davis. This includes the Miles Davis albums Birth of the Cool (1957), Miles Ahead (1957), Porgy and Bess (1958), and Sketches of Spain (1960). Over his career he worked in many musical styles including cool jazz and, in the 1970s, free jazz and jazz rock. His real name was Ian Ernest Gilmore Green. |
