释义 | B of the Bang From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishB of the BangB of the Bang /ˌbiː əv ðə ˈbæŋ/Britain's biggest sculpture, built outside the City of Manchester Stadium to remember the success of the 2002 Commonwealth Games which were held there. It is 184 feet tall and consists of 180 spikes of different lengths, sticking out in different directions. The name of the sculpture comes from a statement by Linford Christie, a British athlete, who said that you have to start on the B of the bang of the starting gun (=small gun that is used to give the signal for a race to begin) if you want to win a race. |
