1
the tense used to talk about habitual actions, behaviour, or states in the present. The simple present consists of the infinitive of a verb, or the infinitive with an ‘s’, for example ‘understand’ and ‘arrives’ in the sentences ‘I understand the question’, and ‘The train arrives at six’. The auxiliaries ‘do’ and ‘does’ are used in questions and negatives, for example in the sentences ‘Do you help your parents with the housework?’ and ‘She doesn’t use her mobile much’.
