Grünberg, Lazăr

 

Born 1911; died Mar. 17, 1944. Activist in the Rumanian youth and antifascist movements.

Grünberg joined the Communist Youth League (CYL) in 1927. He was a leader of the Prague Regional Organization of the CYL in 1932–33 and held a position in its Central Committee during 1933–35. In 1935 he was arrested and given a prison term of nine years and ten months. During World War II he was confined in the Vapniarka camp (from 1942) and then the Rybnitsa prison in fascist-occupied Soviet Ukraine. He was killed by the Gestapo while in confinement.
