Iandiev, Dzhemaldin Khamurzaevich

 

Born Apr. 22 (May 5), 1916, in the village of Balta, in what is now Prigorodnyi Raion, Severnaia Osetiia ASSR. Soviet Ingush poet. People’s Poet of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR (1977).

Iandiev was first published in 1936. His works include collections of poems about modern times, such as Mirror of Time (1941), Native Mountains (1959), Thoughts (1966), and Selected Poems (1976). He has translated works by such authors as A. S. Pushkin, M. Iu. Lermontov, and A. A. Blok. From 1937 to 1944, Iandiev was chairman of the Writers’ Union of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR. His works have been translated into other languages of the USSR.

Iandiev has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
