Hungarian-Chinese Treaty of 1959 on Friendship and Cooperation

signed on May 6 in Peking by Chairman F. Münnich of the Hungarian Revolutionary Workers’ and Peasants’ Government for the Hungarian People’s Republic and Chairman Chou En-lai of the State Council for the Chinese People’s Republic. The period of validity of the treaty was not limited. The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Budapest on Nov. 2, 1959.

The parties, guided by the spirit of sincere cooperation and in accordance with the UN Charter, agreed to participate in all international actions aimed at maintaining the general peace and security of nations and to consult each other on all international questions affecting the interests of the two states, devoting particular attention to questions of safeguarding the security and territorial integrity of their countries. The parties affirmed their determination to strengthen and develop cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres.
