Hopp, Hans

Born Feb. 9, 1890, in Lübeck; died Feb. 21, 1971, in Berlin. German architect of the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

Hopp studied at the Higher Technical School in Karlsruhe and in Munich under T. Fischer. In 1952 he was made president and in 1957 honorary president of the Architects’ Union of the GDR. He combined elements of constructivist and classical architecture in his works of the 1950’s, which included the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Bad Berka, Thuringia (1951–53), and buildings on Karl-Marx-Allee in Berlin, which he designed jointly with other architects.

Hopp was awarded the National Prize of the GDR in 1952.
