Hungarian-Polish Treaty of 1948 on Friendship, Cooperation, And Mutual

signed in Warsaw on June 18 by Chairman of the Council of Ministers J. Cyrankiewicz and Minister of Foreign Affairs Z. Modzelewski for the Polish People’s Republic and by Chairman of the Council of Ministers L. Dinnyés and Minister of Foreign Affairs E. Molnár for Hungary. It was concluded for a period of 20 years.

Expressing their unflagging aspiration to strengthen world peace and security in accordance with the goals and principles of the UN Charter, the parties pledged to participate in all international actions aimed at safeguarding international peace and security and to undertake jointly all measures to prevent aggression by Germany or any other state that might unite with it, directly or in any other form. In the event that one of the parties became the object of aggressive actions by Germany or another state linked to it, the other party would offer military and every other form of assistance with all the means at its disposal. The parties pledged not to conclude any alliances or participate in any actions directed against either one; they promised to consult with each other on all important international questions and to strengthen and develop their mutual economic and cultural ties.
