An ADAMs family protein encoded by ADAM22 on 7q21 which, unlike the other ADAMs, has no metalloprotease activity because it lacks a zinc-binding motif. ADAM22 is highly expressed in the brain, where it might function as an integrin ligand. ADAM22 is essential for correct myelination in the peripheral nervous system of mice.
