Born 370; died 415. Mathematician, astronomer, and Neoplatonic philosopher.
Hypatia taught in the museum of Alexandria. She is responsible for works interpreting the writings of Greek philosophers and works on mathematics and astronomy, none of which have been preserved. Hypatia fell victim to Christian religious fanaticism: Bishop Cyril instigated the mob that brutally murdered her.
