Ianenko, Nikolai Nikolaevich

 

Born May 22, 1921, in Kuibyshev, Novosibirsk Oblast. Soviet specialist in mathematics and mechanics. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970; corresponding member, 1966). Member of the CPSU since 1952.

Ianenko graduated from the University of Tomsk in 1942 and was a staff member of the Institute of Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1948 to 1953. In 1963 he was named head of a laboratory at the Computer Center of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He became a professor at the University of Novosibirsk in 1960 and the head of a subdepartment at the university in 1964. Ianenko’s principal works deal with multidimensional differential geometry and nonlinear problems of mathematical physics and continuum mechanics (including numerical methods of solution).

Ianenko received the State Prize of the USSR in 1953 and 1972 and has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, four other orders, and various medals.
