a balneological health resort in the Bashkir ASSR, 152 km northeast of Ufa and 42 km north of the Kropachevo railroad station. It is situated on the slopes of Mount Iangantau, on the Iuriuzan’ River. Summers are warm, with an average July temperature of 18°C, and winters are moderately cold, with an average January temperature of –16°C. Precipitation totals 475–600 mm annually.

Therapeutic remedies available at Iangantau include steam and hot gases that escape from fissures in the mountain and water from the Kurgazak Spring, located 3 km from the resort. The steam and the hot gases, which contain carbon dioxide, are used for steam and hot-air baths in bathing huts. The radon hydrocarbonate calcium-magnesium water from the spring is used for drinking and bathing. Disorders of the musculoskeletal system, the peripheral nervous system, and the kidneys are among those treated at Iangantau. The resort has a sanatorium and hydrotherapy and balneotherapy facilities.
