Iangiiul

(until 1934, the settlement of Kaunchi), a city under oblast jurisdiction in Tashkent Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Located on the right bank of the Chirchik River, on the Great Uzbek Highway. Railroad station 28 km southwest of Tashkent. Population, 62,000(1977).

Iangiiul’ has a vegetable-oil and fat combine and biochemical, cotton-ginning, flour-milling, and reinforced-concrete products plants. It also has an experimental sausage plant, a wine- and brandy-making plant, and a cannery. Other industrial establishments include the Normal’ Plant, a confectionery and yeast association, and furniture and footwear factories. Educational institutions include a food-processing technicum and a medical school.
